MSU Cougar Web
Used for academic services such as to register for classes or check grades. Go to https://online.mountainstate.edu/.
IMPORTANT:
Your Cougar Web username and password is not the same as your Cougar Email login. If you do not have your login for Cougar Web, you may request that information from itsupport@mountainstate.edu or studentsuccess@mountainstate.edu (please include your name and student id number) or call Cougar Web Support at 800-766-6067 ext. 1730.
MSU Blackboard
Used for the actual delivery of distance learning online classes via Blackboard. Go to https://msu.blackboard.com/.
IMPORTANT: Regarding Blackboard or WebCT inquiries, please send an email to elearningsupport@mountainstate.edu (please include your name and student id number) or call Elearning Support at 800-766-6067 ext. 1496.
Introduction
In August 2007, Mountain State University’s Information Technology Department upgraded its in-house student email services to a new and improved external email provider, Everyone.net. This change has resulted in an improved email experience for enrolled students, most significantly a near total elimination of Spam from each student’s email Inbox. In November 2010, MSU mandated that all students use their msucougar.org student email account for all e-interactions with MSU faculty and staff in order to protect the personal and data security of the communication. We thank you for your support of this important Identity Theft initiative.
Mandatory Fee For All Students
There will be a mandatory and non-refundable $5.00 “one-time fee“ charged to all enrolled student accounts for the creation and maintenance of your new student email account. There will be no additional charge as long as you keep your student email active by accessing it at least once every ninety (90) days. (The msucougar.org email accounts are for active students only and not for alumni.) If your student email account is accessed at least once every ninety (90) days, your account will remain active and “Paid In Full“ for as long as you are an enrolled at MSU. If your student email account is cancelled due to inactivity or is suspended because you withdrew or graduated from MSU, there will be a new $5.00 charge to re-open and re-activate the account and you must make this request to itsupport@mountainstate.edu.
Previously Enrolled Students
You will continue to use the traditional Mountain State student email address (Firstname.Lastname@msucougar.org) -- note the period between the names. If you are a returning student experiencing difficulty accessing your student email account or if you have questions on whether you are entitled to a student email account, please contact us at itsupport@mountainstate.edu. Please include your full name and student id number.
Newly Enrolled Students
If you are a new student to MSU, you will be assigned the traditional Mountain State University official student email address (FirstName.LastName@msucougar.org -- note the period between the names). Your MSU Student Email account will not become active until you are fully registered for classes. Once you register for classes your account will become active within 48 hours.
Logging In
To access your new student email account, your username is usually your Firstname.Lastname (note the period between the names) and your password is initially your student id number. Please change your password at your earliest opportunity.
You will be expected to use your student email account for all school related matters. Please check your account regularly!
Personalize Your Cougar Email Account
Everyone.net provides you the flexibility to personalize your email account.
You may personalize your student email account through the following user Options:
Mail Handling:
Administrator settings take precedence over your preferences, which can result in mail handling behavior different than what you set below:
Personal Profile:
Update your personal information.
Password:
Change your password information periodically. Also remember to set your secret password question for the Forgot Your Password? link.
Email Forwarding:
Automatically forward your email to another address.
Auto Response:
Automatically respond to all emails with a custom message.
Check External Mail:
Retrieve messages from other email accounts.
Email Rules:
Automatically process new messages as they are received.
Email Notification:
Receive a notice at another email address when you have new mail.
SpamShield Pro:
Automatically process junk email.
Signature:
Customize a signature to append to your outgoing messages.
Preferences:
Customize your time zone and reply address, and how you want to manage your messages.
